Hatchet 3 (2013) is the third horror film of the Hatchet Series. It is a follow-up to Victor Crowley's murderous rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley and Brian Quinn is Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.



Its practical special effects are the film's biggest strength. Hatchet 3 is a horror movie that uses CG effects less than many other films. Hatchet 3 has a number of makeup effects that are practical and sets that result in some truly terrifying scenes throughout the film.

The cast gives a strong performance and Kane Hodder standing out as an incredibly intimidating villain. The dialogue is hilarious and cheeky that it could be like a classic 1980s horror film. There are also several hilarious moments that provide a sense of some humor in the midst of the terrifying action.

Unfortunately, because the budget is so small (reportedly one million dollars) the majority of locations used that are featured in the movie are re-used locations from earlier films in the series. For example, the same boathouse was used twice within the movie. Many of these locations seem like they were reused from previous films from this series. For those who have seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2, this can sometimes make the film appear familiar.

Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it felt very similar to prior installments in the series. It also offered lots (click now to see video) of bloody thrills as well as entertaining performances from its cast members.
